noWYR Launches High-speed Internet service in Western Washington
Jan. 2, 2005
noWYR's move to provide quality broadband Internet service
to unserved and underserved communities started with the simultaneous
installation of three major access centers serving the south
Puget Sound area. From Kent, south to Ohop, and east past
Enumclaw and Grass Mountain. noWYR's coverage area includes
Federal Way, Auburn, North Tacoma, Spanaway, Graham, Orting,
Carbanado, Puyallup, Bonney Lake, Maple Valley, Black Diamond,
and their surrounding areas.
The company delivers their service using wireless access
points and wireless modems placed on the outside of their
customer's buildings. Their first three access centers are
located on radio towers in Milton, Graham, and on the top
of Grass Mountain. They are capable of providing service from
126 Kbps (twice as fast as the fastest dial-up) up to 6 Mbps
(over 100 times faster than dial-up). Customers can be as
far away as 10 miles from an access center (30 miles from
Grass Mountain) and still receive service, especially if the
modem has a clear line of site to a noWYR access center.
"We're offering premium service at competative prices,"
said company spokesman Al Kalar. The company markets to both
business and residential customers with different plans for
each. They will also offer customized service for customers
with unusual requirements.
Kalar predicted they would expand their Washington coverage
by installing up to 7 more access centers in 2005.
The company can be reached at 253-922-7048 or on their website
at www.nowyr.net.
